One of the mainstays of CBS’s “60 Minutes” for the past 30 years will be the focus of this Sunday’s installment of the show, which will pay tribute to correspondent Steve Kroft. As we reported back in May, Kroft, who is the show’s longest-tenured reporter, is retiring.

Deadline reports that the special episode of the show will air Sunday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. The first two-thirds of the program will present highlights from Kroft’s career on “60 Minutes.”

“The newsmagazine, in its 52nd season, will present such Kroft moments as his report on Chernobyl and interviews with Clint Eastwood, Justice Clarence Thomas, Beyoncé and Jerry Seinfeld,” Deadline reports. “The last part of the episode rebroadcasts Kroft’s Edward R. Murrow Award-winning ‘The Isle of Eigg,’ a whimsical report of life on an island off the Scottish Coast.”

Kroft, 74, is quoted saying: “I’ve always … had great amount of respect for people who’ve left their professions when they were on top. I felt that this was the time for me to go, that there were other things that I wanted to do that I still had the energy to do…”

Here’s a preview in which Kroft is interviewed by Lesley Stahl …
