An animated series that broke ground, gained a loyal following and won a Peabody Award during a four-season run on Adult Swim is returning to television. WarnerMedia announced that “The Boondocks” will be “reimagined” for HBO Max.

The series from creator Aaron McGruder will launch in fall 2020 with a 50-minute special. In addition, two new seasons of the show have been ordered, with McGruder to return as showrunner.

Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Television will produce the show.

All 55 episodes of the original Adult Swim series will also be available on the direct-to-consumer service when it launches.
