Singer R. Kelly was a no-show at a federal court hearing scheduled for Wednesday in Chicago, with his attorney indicating he missed the appearance due to a toenail infection, CNN reports.
The report cites Kelly’s attorney Steven Greenberg saying Kelly is in a walking boot after having his toenail removed and was concerned about the possibility that his foot would be stepped on.
“Kelly, who is being held without bond in Chicago, is facing separate federal grand jury indictments in Illinois and New York,” CNN notes. “The indictments allege Kelly recruited women for sex, persuaded people to conceal that he had sexual contact with teenage girls and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars buying back videotapes that prosecutors say are incriminating.”
Today’s scheduled court appearance was part of a status hearing related to Kelly’s federal case in Illinois, CNN notes.
Kelly has denied allegations of sexual misconduct.
