Secret Service Documents Confirm the Agency Questioned Eminem About Trump Threat

Documents that were released this week by the Secret Service under a Freedom of Information Act request from BuzzFeed News confirm that the organization contacted Eminem after learning in late 2017 that the rapper had released an album containing lyrics that were seen as a threat to Donald Trump.

Eminem has been vocal in his opposition to Trump, including delivering an angry anti-Trump freestyle for the BET Hip Hop Awards in October 2017, which you can watch below.

The Secret Service reportedly got interested in the rapper after receiving word from someone at TMZ. BuzzFeed notes that the TMZ staffer was apparently seeking comment after publishing a story about Eminem’s criticism of Trump.

The request from TMZ apparently came the same day Eminem released his album “Revival,” on Dec. 15, 2017. TMZ reported that day that the album labeled Trump “an Aryan who’s about to be booted out of office.”

TMZ quotes the track “Like Home,” in which Eminem reportedly says: “All he does is watch Fox News like a parrot and repeats, while he looks like a canary with a beak.”

BuzzFeed quotes the Secret Service documents saying that on the same day, Dec. 15, 2017, “a concerned citizen reported Marshall Mathers the rapper ‘Eminem’ had a new song called ‘Framed’ with an inappropriate comment towards President Donald Trump and a threatening comment towards Ivanka Trump.”

The documents reportedly identify the “concerned citizen” as a TMZ employee, who reportedly asked in an email to the Secret Service: “I want to know if your agency is investigating Eminem for his threatening lyrics about First daughter Ivanka Trump.”

BuzzFeed adds: “The Secret Service investigative documents, which are heavily redacted, go on to say, ‘the song was about a murder that he could remember and must be “framed” with the specific lyrics, “Donald Duck’s on as the Tonka Truck in the yard. But dog, how the fuck is Ivanka Trump in the trunk of my car? …  cause I feel somewhat responsible for the dumb little blonde Girl, that motherfuckin ‘ baton twirler that got dumped in the pond, Second murder with no recollection of it…”‘”

BuzzFeed also quotes the documents saying: “This is not the first time MATHERS made threatening comments towards POTUS and his family. In June 2017, MATHERS freestyled comments that were threatening in nature towards POTUS.”

Eminem referenced his contact by the Secret Service in his album “Kamikaze,” released in August 2018, but the Secret Service would not comment on whether it had contacted him, BuzzFeed notes.

The report quotes lyrics in “Kamikaze’s” lead track, “The Ringer,” in which Eminem says: “‘Cause Agent Orange just sent the Secret Service / To meet in person to see if I really think of hurtin’ him / Or ask if I’m linked to terrorists / I said, ‘Only when it comes to ink and lyricists.'”

  1. What a bunch of snowflakes. This is rap. Trump threatens on his Twitter daily and he is supposed to be the leader of the free world. I push miles and miles away from Republicans everyday. They’ve gone insane. Sad because I liked being able to vote for the best person, rather than a party.

  2. Standard operating procedure regardless of which party the sitting President is from.

  3. This is misogynistic and sexist. Where is Tarana Burke and the MeToo movement when all of these rap “artist” are spewing this type of hatred for women?

  4. Ohhhh, that was some really powerful stuff Emmy. I really liked the way all those guys left their car lights on for you.
