A popular actress stirred up a hornet’s nest with her Halloween makeup, in which she looks like an abuse victim.

The New York Post’s Page Six reports that after Bella Thorne posted selfies on Instagram showing the makeup — you can see one example below — some social media users expressed disappointment with her choice.

The report quotes one of Thorne’s followers writing: “Why is glamorizing being physically abused culturally appropriate during Halloween?”

Thorne, a former child model, is perhaps best known for her breakout role as CeCe Jones on the Disney Channel series “Shake It Up.” She has also appeared on the shows “My Own Worst Enemy” and “Big Love,” along with feature films including “Amityville: The Awakening” and “The Babysitter.”

“One follower even noted the psychological effects of seeing such an image for people who have survived physical abuse,” The Post reports, quoting the follower writing: “I just find this post slightly triggering and surprising as she is a strong spokeswoman against abuse and such.”

The report notes that the makeup apparently wasn’t part of Thorne’s actual Halloween costume, as she opted for a revealing Girl Scout uniform.
