World Series Avoids Record Low Viewership

Thanks to a come-from-behind World Series victory for the Washington Nationals and strong viewer turnout for Game 7, this year’s World Series, airing on Fox, overcame a slow start to avoid setting a record low for viewership.

“The Series’ seventh and deciding game reached 23.2 million people, eclipsing even ‘Sunday Night Football’ and enabling the Series to average just under 14 million viewers per game, the Nielsen company said. The last game drew nearly 7 million more viewers than any of the other games,” the AP reports, noting: “Through five games, the Series was on pace to be the least-watched Fall Classic ever.”

The four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers by the San Francisco Giants in 2012 remains the least-watched World Series ever with an average of 12.66 million viewers.
