An actor who won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in CBS’s “Kaz” has died. Ron Leibman died Friday of complications from pneumonia, according to media reports. He was 82.

In addition to the Emmy he received in 1979 for his short-lived crime drama, which he co-created and co-wrote along with starring as Martin “Kaz” Kazinsky, Leibman is remembered for his Tony Award-winning performance on the stage as Roy Cohn in “Angels in America.” The performance won him both the Tony for Best Actor in a Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play in 1993.

Leibman was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1986 for his supporting role as Morris Huffner in “Christmas Eve.” More recently he provided the voice of Ron Cadillac in a recurring role in “Archer.” He also played Dr. Leonard Green, Rachel’s father, in a recurring role on NBC’s “Friends.”

His long career on television goes back to the early 1960s, when he began a series of guest roles on shows including “The Edge of Night” and “The DuPont Show of the Week.” Later appearances included “Police Story” and “Murder, She Wrote.” He was a regular on “Pacific Station” in the early ’90s and later on “Central Park West” and “Holding the Baby.”

Leibman had an arc as Dr. Lior Plepler on “The Sopranos” in 2006.
