The New York Times’ David Carr and Tim Arango are reporting that the board of directors of Tribune is about to ask for the resignation of Chief Executive Randy Michaels, who was at the center of a previous report by the Times about the company’s frat-house culture under his command. 

Michaels had lost the confidence of the board in his ability to lead Tribune, which is mired in bankruptcy court in Delaware, the story says. Michaels became CEO of Tribune in December, two years after he joined as an executive in charge of its broadcasting and interactive units. Before joining Tribune, he had a long career in radio and had worked at Clear Channel Communications and Jacor Communications.

As previously reported by the Times, under Michaels the once-respected journalistic standards of the company frayed and "sexual innuendo, poisonous workplace banter and profane invective" became common, offending many workers. Michaels would be the second top Tribune executive to depart, with the resignation last week of Tribune’s chief innovation officer, who left after being suspended by Tribune for sending a companywide email with content considered inappropriate for the workplace.
