Showtime to Demonstrate ITV Application at Cable Show
Showtime Networks will unveil a new interactive TV (ITV) application at the NCTA Cable Show, which runs April 1-3 in Washington, D.C.
The Showtime Marketing Application uses ITV to ease selection and ordering for viewers. The technology will allow viewers to access custom video segments and to upgrade to Showtime using remote ordering.
The application is being developed so that it can be used on the ITV platforms of cable, satellite and telco operator partners, including ActiveVideo, OpenTV and EBIF. The EBIF version, developed by itaas, Inc., will bring the technology to viewers with legacy and next generation set-top boxes from Cisco and Motorola
Showtime is teaming with Verizon FiOS TV to deploy the Showtime Marketing Application, which will be demonstrated at the ActiveVideo and itaas booths at the NCTA Cable Show.
“Working closely with our operator partners, we’re empowering customers to sample and order Showtime right on the TV,” Robert Hayes, senior VP and general manager of Showtime Digital, said in a statement. “This self-service approach is a win-win for everyone involved. The viewer can sample our hit programming, while the automated approach generates additional sales and reduces call-center expenses for the operators.”

So soon will cable allow us to select which channels we want WITHOUT having 2 pay for "plus" or "premiuim" packages? I hope so.
