An actor who made history by appearing as the first Klingon on the original 1960s series "Star Trek" has died, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Victor Lundin, 83, died June 29 in Los Angeles after a long illness.

Lundin, who often played tough guys in films and TV, also was one of the Penguin’s henchmen on "Batman" and played Chief Standing Pat in another episode of the 1960s television show.

The actor also played the alien slave Friday in 1964’s "Robinson Crusoe on Mars," an adaptation of the Daniel Defoe novel. Lundin was a trained opera singer who also was a singer-songwriter. He went on to roles such as Machine Gun Kelly in 1960’s "Ma Barker’s Killer Brood."

His television work included roles on "Gunsmoke," "Get Smart," "Mannix" and "Babylon 5," among other shows.
