Syfy has picked up a science-fiction project from an actor who has been described as a "geek hero" for his role in the "Star Trek" universe. EW.com's Inside TV reports that the cable channel picked up 12 episodes of "The Wil Wheaton Project," from the actor who played Wesley Crusher on “Star Trek: The Next Generation."

Wheaton described the show as as “sort of like ‘Talk Soup’ for geeks.” The show will feature Wheaton discussing some of the biggest stories in geek culture.

Wheaton said the show will be a “weekly roundup of the things I love on television and on the Internet, with commentary and jokes, and the occasional visit from interesting people who make those things happen.”

The show will debut on May 27 at 10 p.m. ET.
