The Oscar nominees were announced this morning, and the big news is that two offbeat movies, “Birdman” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” were tied with the most nominations, 9. The other big news is that “Selma” was snubbed in all the major categories except Best Picture.

On the other side of the ledger, the small independent film “Whiplash” was nominated for Best Picture, as well as garnering an expected nomination for Best Supporting Actor for J.K. Simmons.

Here’s a list of some of the major nominees. [To see a complete list of movies nominated, please click here.] The Oscar telecast is on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015 on ABC.
