Hmmm. Seems to Us This is Pretty Much a Tie, Though One Movie Has Claimed the U.S. Box-Office Crown in 2014 for Making the Most Money

The battle for the crown as the highest-grossing domestic release of 2014 was between two movies: Disney/Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” and Liongate’s “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1.”

Like most folks who follow this category, we were under the impression that “Guardians” would take the crown.

But then yesterday Lionsgate announced the final 2014 “Mockingjay” number.

“Mockingjay’s” U.S. box-office gross was $333.18 million. “Guardians” came in at $333.17 million.

Can’t get much closer than that…And both movies will do very well on the small screen for years to come.
