WE tv has pulled a reality show from its lineup midway through a run that brought attention, and controversy, to the cable channel. B&C reports that the channel pulled “Sex Box” from the schedule.

The channel had ordered nine episodes, with five of those making it to air.

In a statement, WE tv said: “’Sex Box’ was a bold programming swing that broke new ground but did not connect with large numbers of viewers. We are working with our production partners on a potential reformatted version of the show and are thankful for the efforts of everyone involved.”

The program, which debuted Feb. 27, had couples working out relationship issues by talking things over with experts before disappearing into a soundproof box to have sex.

The show drew protests from groups such as the media watchdog Parents Television Council.
