Surprises and Snubs: It’s This Year’s Primetime Emmy Nominations. We have the Complete List

Jul 16, 2015  •  Post A Comment

Here are some of the surprises and snubs in this morning’s 2015 Primetime Emmy nominations, per the opinion of entertainment writer Julie Hind in the Detroit Free Press:

“Most mad props: Jon Hamm has now been nominated eight times for his role in AMC’s ‘Mad Men.’ Will his performance as a broken Don Draper in the final season finally rescue him from Susan Lucci territory? And if his costar, best actress nominee Elisabeth Moss, wins, can she walk to the stage in sunglasses carrying a large box of office supplies?”

“Coolest faceoff: While Tatiana Maslany’s long-overdue nod for playing a cast of clones on BBC America’s ‘Orphan Black’ is reason to celebrate, the best actress/drama competition should be dominated by the great performances of Viola Davis of ABC’s ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ and Taraji P. Henson of Fox’s ‘Empire.’ May the best woman — who’d become the first African-American actress to take home this category’s prize — win.”

“Saddest snubs: Ellie Kemper of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,’ Gina Rodriguez of the CW’s ‘Jane the Virgin,’ Clive Owen of Cinemax’s ‘The Knick,’ Mindy Kaling of Fox’s ‘The Mindy Project’ and two kick-butt series, FX’s ‘The Americans’ and Starz’s ‘Outlander.'”

Happiest surprises: The nods for Anthony Anderson of ‘Blackish,’ Will Forte of Fox’s ‘Last Man on Earth,’ Kyle Chandler of Netflix’s “Bloodline,” Tituss Burgess of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ and Lisa Kudrow for her magnificent turn as B-list star Valerie Cherish in the comeback of HBO’s ‘The Comeback.'”

  1. Heart-wrenching that Lois Smith’s AMAZING work as a Guest Star on “The Americans” was snubbed. It was a Master Class in acting – brought viewers to tears and instead they nominated Margo Martindale – who is wonderful, but hardly had a scene in the show this year. Certainly nothing as gut-wrenching as the work Lois Smith did in “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.” At least the script was nominated for its fine writing. To think at age 85 Ms. Smith could still work such magic should give all actors hope. Shame on the Acting Branch of the TV Academy. We should petition for a write-in vote.

  2. I agree. That was an amazing episode and she was great.

  3. Thank you for recognizing Outlander, even though the Academy didn’t. By far my favorite show last season.

  4. it is a crime that Justified has never gotten the recognition it deserved. It was one of the best scripted shows in a long time. The stars were great and the dialogue was consistently outstanding. Something a lot of other shows could benefit from watching and learning. I also agree that Outlander was the best thing Starz has ever produced and deserved way more consideration. The Emmy nominations have become too focused on name recognition and not quality.
