‘The View’ Has a New Host — But Not Without Drama

After saying goodbye to Rosie Perez, the ABC daytime talk staple “The View” has its replacement picked out. According to media reports, comedian Michelle Collins, who has appeared on Bravo and VH1, is poised to slip into the spot.

The announcement hasn’t exactly gone smoothly. Deadline.com reports that ABC News was set to make the announcement today about Collins getting the gig, but changed its mind at the last minute. That gave Perez the spotlight for her farewell on this morning’s show.

Some media outlets had already reported Collins’ appointment. Variety reports that the hiring of Collins will now be officially announced at a future date.

“The ultimate direction of ‘The View’ has been unclear since ABC shifted supervision of the program to its ABC News division last fall,” Variety notes. “The veteran program has suffered from lackluster ratings in recent years, and has churned through hosts, including Sherri Shepard and Jenny McCarthy.”

Raven-Symone, who was a child star on “The Cosby Show” before starring on “That’s So Raven,” joined the program in June, while moderator Whoopi Goldberg has been the most stable member of the lineup. Both Rosie O’Donnell and Nicolle Wallace recently left.

E! Online notes that Collins has been a guest co-host on the show for a few weeks. “Collins’ other credits include ‘Walk of Shame Shuttle,’ ‘Kathy,’ running VH1’s Best Week Ever blog, LOGO’s ‘The Gossip Queens’ and her own web talk show ‘Martini Minute,'” E! notes.

  1. That show is just so bad now. I watch just to make fun of it. It needs to be axed . Babs can’t be proud..

    • Dear sir,With all due respects, plseae do not take this comment as youthful imprudence. We do know our culture and its true value. If in doubt plseae do visit http://www.poetryinstone.inToday‘s generation is born with the innate urge and the freedom to question everything. Nothing is sacred or sacrosaunt. So while i do appreciate your attempts to instill age old values and virtues among the next generation, plseae do not portray them as good for nothing bermuda clad sleep walking clones. If you take a preacher position, first of all your preaching falls on dead ears and to be a preacher you should have walked your talk. Its better to walk along with them, see things from their perspective and then try to offer your suggestions – which will work more miracles than a hundred sermons from the mount.rgdsvj

  2. I like it. It is a change but that is okay. A fresh honest look at what is happening.

  3. Nicolle Wallace has not left the program.

    • Fantastic site you have here but I was wondering if you knew of any comnimuty forums that cover the same topics discussed in this article? I’d really love to be a part of comnimuty where I can get opinions from other knowledgeable individuals that share the same interest. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Kudos!

  4. What a big mistake letting Rosie Perez go, She was delightful on the show and a good advocate for Latinas. Michelle that they are binging in has no soul she talks over everyone even Whoopi and is just a distraction because she has no real life experience. And talking about getting rid of Nicole Wallace is another really bad idea, she is so smart and give what seems to be somewhat of an unbiased point of view.

  5. Youngsters are very bright today and inovtavine but totally unaware and disrespectful of the past and its values. V r just telling them “LOOK GUYS U MAY BE DRIVING A BENZ CAR TODAY BUT DONT FORGET THAT THE ROAD ON WHICH U DRIVE WAS LAID BY UR FORBEARERS>” YGEEM
