A Reporter Finally Talks to Ricky Gervais and Clears Up Who Said What to Him About Hosting the Golden Globes Again

Ricky Gervais finally spoke to a reporter today to clear up who said what to him about hosting the Golden Globes again next year.

According to Bryan Alexander inThe Hollywood Reporter, Gervais said  that NBC’s Doug  Vaughan, senior vp special programs and news & entertainment, was the person who had called him. NBC broadcasts the Golden Globes ceremony that is put on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

Gervais told THR, "Doug Vaughan called me and said he loved (the show). That it was great. He said don’t rule out a third gig. I said I don’t think I’ll do it again. I doubt I’ll be invited back. And he said, just don’t rule it out. … I’m sure he’ll back that up.”

THR pointed out to Gervais that when he wrote in his blog  that he had spoken to "organisers," the word "organisers"  implies the HFPA rather than NBC. Gervais said, "Okay, so it was my fault then? I meant the TV show."

Gervais told THR he was annoyed that HFPA president Phil Berk had said "Nice try Ricky" when he denied that Gervais had been invited back. "Of the line, Gervais said, ‘It’s not fair. I always tell the truth. So that’s the thing that bothered me.’ "
