An analysis by independent media agency TargetCast revealed that the average cost per unit for a prime-time commercial on broadcast TV in the second quarter fell 11.1% from a year ago to $139,728, MediaWeek reports. Fox averaged the highest 30-second ad unit cost at $254,852 (down 2.7%), with ABC, CBS and NBC following behind at $142,194 (down 5.1%), $118,224 (down 18%) and $103,693 (down 11.1%), respectively, the newspaper says. The writers strike, which resulted in a lack of new episodes in April and lower ratings for those shows that did have new offerings, is singled out as cause for the decrease, the newspaper notes.
