Summer Originals Help Broadcasters

While still getting trounced by the cable networks in overall viewing so far this summer, a large helping of original programming is helping the broadcast networks make a slightly stronger showing than last year, Daily Variety reports. Helped by the NBA Finals and shows like “Wipeout,” the broadcasters are up 5% in total viewers from last Summer. Cable continues to add viewers as well, but the Writers Guild of America strike had an impact by delaying some original shows, the trade paper said.
