With telecom companies banding together and cable operators linking up in various ventures, consumers are mostly left with two choices when picking providers for TV, voice and Internet service, the Los Angeles Times says. “It’s a duopoly,” Michael Shames, executive director of the Utility Consumers’ Action Network in San Diego, tells the paper. “It’s two titans battling for the hearts, minds and wallets of consumers.”
