Chinese Olympic organizers are facing further heat after reports surfaced that Lin Miaoke, a 9-year-old girl who performed during the Opening Ceremonies, was lip-synching, Daily Variety reports. Her performance became controversial when it was revealed that the original singer, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, wasn’t allowed to perform on-camera because she wasn’t considered cute enough, the trade paper says. Meanwhile, NBC gymnastics commentator Bela Karolyi is among those questioning whether some members of the gold medal winning Chinese team were under-age, according to the New York Times, which says the issue would have been a bigger deal on cable news had the Games been held in the U.S. instead of China.
