Los Angeles’ HD Channel Lineup Limited

Los Angeles, widely considered the entertainment capital of the world and ground zero for the TV industry, is ranked dead last among the top five U.S. markets in terms of high-definition channel availability, the Los Angeles Times reports. Of the 1.5 million households in the market that own high-definition sets, only 80% receive at least one high-definition channel, a study found. The study also found residents of smaller cities such as San Diego, Calif., and Charlotte, N.C., have more high-definition availability.

  1. How is a nearly three month old article from the LA Times news? You have to do better than this!

  2. You must be nuts to publish an ‘article’ like this. Even from 100 miles away I can get several high def signals from L.A.

  3. They’re not talking broadcast stations. Nearly every station in the country is BROADCASTING in HD. But cable HD offerings (such as from Time Warner cable, the main cable provider in LA) are laughably limited. Cable companies and satellite providers in other large markets are boasting 30, 40, 50, even 100 HD channels. How many do we have here in LA? 19 – not including premium channels like HBO. Yes, the LA Times article is 3 months old, but nothing has changed in 3 months! Time Warner keeps promising to roll out more HD channels, but in my neighborhood, I’ve seen only 3 new channels in 6 months. C’mon Time Warner…
