Japan’s Tokyo Broadcasting System is suing ABC for what it alleges is copyright infringement on the network’s game show “Wipeout,” Daily Variety reports. The suit was filed in Los Angeles District Court and claims “Wipeout” lifts ideas from the Japanese broadcaster’s programs “Takeshi’s Castle,” “Sasuke” and “Kuniochi.” Japan’s ad income is shrinking and broadcasters are much more vigorously protecting copyrights, Variety says. ABC spokesperson Hope Hartman said the network would not comment on pending litigation.
