Kelley Legal Script Making the Rounds

Oct 8, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Warner Bros. TV is shopping around a spec script for a new series from David E. Kelly, the Hollywood Reporter says. CBS and NBC are reported to be the top contenders for the project, a legal series, with any deal expected to require “a significant commitment” from the winning network, the trade paper says. Kelly is currently wrapping up the final 13 episodes of ABC’s “Boston Legal,” which will then leave “Eli Stone” as the only legal series on broadcast TV.

  1. That really depends on your definition of “legal series”. Law & Order has had courtroom scenes for decades (and is arguably more a “legal series” than “Boston Legal,” if you want to talk realism).

  2. If CBS and NBC are smart, they’ll stay away from Kelley as far as possible. He may be able to produce hits, but I feel like he stiffarmed ABC into this final season of “Legal” that just gets more and more ludicrous by the season. The cases aren’t plausible and the way the lawyers act in court is so unrealistic it’s not even funny. No, I’m not a nut for realism, but at least in the early years of the show, the antics made some semblance of sense.
Also, “Eli Stone” as last man standing really depends on your definition of “legal series”. Law & Order has had courtroom scenes for decades.
