Switch to Digital Will be ‘Messy’

Saying that the switch to digital broadcasting will be “messy,” FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell urged broadcasters to work harder to make sure viewers take steps to avoid facing a blank screen in February, Reuters reports. According to a government study about 15% of U.S. households use analog sets without cable or satellite and will be unable to watch TV unless they obtain a converter box, the wire service says.

  1. Again somebody wants to get his name on TV for bring up (again!) the idea that the public is too stupid to know what to do. They need government to step in and hold their hand in every situation!
By now anyone who isn’t familiar with the coming digital switch probably should find something else to occupy his dreary life.

Well, they’ll have to, won’t they? And the TV industry will be minus those viewers. It’s a simple equation: if the industry wants to keep those viewers, they’ll have to take the necessary steps to do so. And if they don’t, there will be an outcry, because you can take a lot of things away from the American people, including their money, but if you mess with their TV, there will be trouble.
