Line Off on Sunday Night Football

Nov 12, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Technology used by NBC on “Sunday Night Football” to electronically show viewers where the line of scrimmage is was called into question during this week’s Giants-Eagles game when the Giants challenged a call that quarterback Eli Manning illegally crossed the line before passing, the New York Times reports. The Giants say he did not cross the line and replays using monitors and a “readjusted” line showed that’s the case, the newspaper says.

  1. It’s important to remember that the artificial line is not official and is not used by officials to determine the line of scrimmage. It’s simply a tool for the viewing audience…and very cool tech.
