McCain Campaigns for Laughs on ‘SNL’

Nov 3, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Presidential candidate John McCain shared the spotlight with Tina Fey as she impersonated his running mate, Sarah Palin, in the opening sketch on “Saturday Night Live,” the Associated Press reports. Days after Barack Obama ran an infomercial on several major networks, McCain and Palin were shown making their pitch on QVC. McCain made “maverick” jokes and Fey, as Palin, was getting ready to hawk “Palin 2012” T-shirts during the skit. Rather than returning to Alaska, “I’m either running in four years or I’m going to be a white Oprah,” said Fey as Palin. The appearance helped “SNL” draw its second best overnight ratings since 1997, TelevisionWeek says.
