NY Gov. Paterson Offended by ‘SNL’ Skit

Dec 15, 2008  •  Post A Comment

New York Governor David Paterson, who is legally blind, was offended by “Saturday Night Live” actor Fred Armisen’s depiction of him on Saturday’s program, which included Armison holding a graph upside-down and acting disoriented, the New York Post says. The spoof might cause viewers to believe “disability goes hand-in-hand with an inability to run a government or business,” Paterson said. The show also marked a return and goodbye by Amy Poehler, the Associated Press says. “This is my last show,” she said during “SNL’s” “Weekend Update” segment. “Being able to do over 140 shows with my friends and my family has been a dream come true.” Poehler recently gave birth to a son, Archie, and is working on a new sitcom for NBC.

  1. This story begs the following questions. 1) Was he up and watching the show? 2) if he is legally blind, how did he see the show? I am not being sarcastic but c’mon. Bigger politicians than this guy have been skewered on SNL. Anyone remember Janet Reno? How about Palin. if we can’t laugh at ourselves, we cant laugh at anyone else. I am willing to bet that when SNL lampoons his political rivals,he thinks it is a laugh riot.

  2. It’s not that SNL made fun of Patterson. They made fun of blindness. Feh.

  3. I am so tired of all the PC people out there, it’s a comedy show, ment to make people laugh, anyone remember when Stevie Wonder apaired SNL, he made fun of his own blindness. Get over it people, if your that sensitive, Dont Watch!!

  4. Yes, Stevie Wonder made fun of his blindness, but HE made fun of it, not someone else. Self deprecating humor is funny. Insulting someone because of a disability is not.
The first part of the skit was fine, but adding the part with him aimlessly walking around the set is just wrong and should have been removed.
