House Working to Move DTV Date

The House Energy & Commerce Committee is working on legislation to push back the conversion date for digital television and to free up money for the DTV-to-analog converter box coupon program, Broadcasting & Cable reports. The bill to create more funds for the coupon program is no longer an option, because there’s not enough time to distribute the coupons to the 2 million people on the wait list by Feb. 17, the current date for the conversion. Meanwhile, Senate Commerce Committee chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., spent Tuesday assembling a bill to achieve the same goals, as he also supports delaying the transition, Multichannel News reports.
