NBC has greenlighted a pilot based on Imagine’s film “Parenthood,” which is being adapted for TV by “Friday Night Lights” writer and executive producer Jason Katims, Daily Variety reports. Along with Katims, Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard will executive produce the show, which will have the same tone as the movie, but different characters and story lines, Variety says.

  1. Wow, a new TV show based on a film from 1989?
What’s next, the renewal of the TV shows based on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Uncle Buck?
If this is the best NBC can do, GE should just pull the plug now and use the proceeds to shore up their other divisions.

  2. Didn’t they do this before? I vaguely remember a horrible TV show based off of Parenthood back from when the movie originally came out.
