Boucher: Satellite Must Carry TV

Feb 13, 2009  •  Post A Comment

House Communications, Technology & Internet Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va., said he’ll push to require satellite companies to carry all local TV stations, and that his top priority as head of the subcommittee is broadband deployment, Broadcasting & Cable reports. He said his first hearing as leader that he would focus on the reauthorization of the Satellite Home Viewer Act, which allows satellite companies to carry distant networks to customers who can’t receive a similar local signal. As part of that, he would like to require satellite operators to carry local TV stations, including the 30 markets where satellite operators don’t carry them—which includes one in Boucher’s district—the trade paper says.
