Crime Dramas Favored for Fall

What’s clear, now that the pilot drama orders are finishing up, is that the networks are leaning heavily toward crime dramas and self-contained procedurals for the next season, while complicated story lines or unusual topics have fallen out of favor, the Hollywood Reporter says. There are some wrinkles within the genres: underage crime solvers on ABC’s untitled Daniel Cerone pilot and past-life investigators on Fox’s untitled David Hudgins project. Among the medical pilots, the networks are taking on nurses, such as in NBC’s “Mercy,” and a schizophrenic surgeon with Fox’s “Maggie Hill,” the Reporter says.
