As producer Lorne Michaels readies the debut of “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” on March 2, he predicts the show “will be bumpy at first,” Daily Variety reports. Fallon and his team have taped two test shows this week, and both went well, Michaels tells the trade paper says. The first week’s guests will include Robert De Niro, Tina Fey, Jon Bon Jovi, Cameron Diaz, Donald Trump, Serena Williams, Ludacris, Drew Barrymore and Mario Batali, Variety says.

  1. And why shouldn’t it be a bumpy start?
Conan O’Brien’s first year was unbearably awful. NBC gave short renewal (weeks, not months) after short renewal, because the show was really, really bad. Really. But then it slowly got better and better until it became a good show (though its ratings lately have been suffering against Craig Ferguson, who is better).
