Millard Kaufman, an Oscar-nominated screenwriter and co-creator of the Mr. Magoo character, died of heart failure on March 14, Daily Variety reports. He was 92. Kaufman created the character of Mr. Magoo with animator John Hubley for a 1949 short called “Ragtime Bear” at UPA Productions, the trade paper says. Aside from writing screenplays such as “Bad Day at Black Rock,” he wrote for television series including “Starsky and Hutch” and “Police Story,” the publication says.
