Local stations are expanding their local news broadcasts rather than airing costly syndicated programs, and the result is often better ratings, Bloomberg News reports. After News Corp.’s WJBK-TV in Detroit decided to air local news at 11 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., the late-night timeslot is attracting 65% more viewers between 18 to 49, while the morning newscast is up 33%, the news service says.
