May Sweeps to Offer Little Surprise

The May ‘sweeps’ period, which begins tonight, is unlikely to hold any surprises for the networks, as CBS, with its hits such as “The Mentalist,” will win, while Fox will claim the battle for viewers between 18 to 49, USA Today reports. The origins of this year’s May sweeps hark back to last year’s three-month writers’ strike, when NBC abandoned pilot episodes and ABC delayed its development, the newspaper says. “I don’t know if it’s coincidence, but the network that decided to stay the course as a result of the strike is having the greatest success this year,” Starcom Worldwide analyst Sam Armando tells the publication.
