Dominick Dunne, perhaps best known for writing about court trials for Vanity Fair and commenting about them on what was then Court TV, has died at age 83, of bladder cancer.
Dunne started his career working as a stage manager on the early TV kids program "The Howdy Doody Show," according to an obituary at vanityfair.com.
He had various TV-related jobs, culminating in a vice presidency at Four Star Productions. He then started producing movies, including the hard-hitting drama "Panic in Needle Park."
At age 50 he started writing novels, and wrote a number of best-sellers.
His first article for Vanity Fair was in March 1984, according to the magazine, and was "an account of the trial of the man who murdered his daughter Dominique."
