Angela Bromstad, president, primetime entertainment for NBC, said if it was up to her–and it will be next year, when the Emmy primetime ceremony moves to the Peacock Network–she would not have shortened the broadcast by cutting the time from awards given to writers, The Hollywood Reporter’s blog The Live Feed reports.

Talking to reporters after her formal session at the summer press tour Wednesday, Aug. 4, of the Television’s Critic’s Associtaion, Bromstad said, according to The Live Feed,  "On some level [the new rules are] doing the work for all of us," she said. "[The show] had gotten too long. But this is a writers medium. I don’t think [shortening the category’s presentation] is something we would have done."

In a separate development, both the Writers Guild and Directors Guild have issued statements saying that the new procedure of pre-recording certain awards violates the contracts the Guilds have with the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the primetime Emmy broadcast.
