ABC Eliminating the Usual First Commercial Break in Premieres of New Shows

In an effort to hook viewers with the content of its new shows, ABC will run the premiere episodes without the usual initial commercial break. That means some of its dramas will likely air 15 or 20 minutes before viewers see the first commercial, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

According to the article, " ‘You hope the longer you keep them at the start of the show, the more likely they are to stick to it,’ said Jeff Bader, ABC Entertainment’s executive vice president and scheduling guru."
