NBC U’s Cotton Stands by AOL/Time Warner Merger Comments on Distribution

Dec 11, 2009  •  Post A Comment

NBC Executive VP and General Counsel Rick Cotton said he stands by comments he co-wrote in 2000 that raised concerns about a merged AOL/Time Warner’s potential to discriminate against competitors, B&C reports.

He wrote then that the distribution side of the deal “should not advantage affiliated services." The American Cable Association has been suggesting that NBCU is reversing its position now that it is merging with Comcast.

Cotton said the distribution issue was addressed in a public interest statement issued at the time of the Comcast/NBCU deal.
