Apple is expected to test a price drop for episodes of TV shows downloaded through iTunes in April, which is when the company’s iPad tablet hits stores, the Financial Times reports. [Note: The Financial Time (FT) has a firewall and might ask some users to register and/or pay to see this story.) A free version is available at PCWorld.
Episodes now cost $1.99 in most cases and some would drop to $1. [Some media outlets are saying the drop will be to 99 cents.) Apple–and whatever participating media companies it gets–will be looking to see whether a lower cost results in more sales.
The FT says it’s not clear which networks have agreed to the new lower prices. Apple didn’t comment to FT about the story.
