Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered: Classic ’60s Sitcom–the Enchanted ‘Mad Men’ of Its Time, Debuts on TVLand

Feb 18, 2010  •  Post A Comment

One of the most beloved sitcoms of the ’60s comes to TVLand beginning March 1. And one of the characters is an Adman so impressive it took actors to portray him.

We’re speaking, of course, of "Bewitched," starring Elizabeth Montgomery as everybody’s favorite stay-at-home mom/witch, Samantha Stevens, and, as her adman husband, Darrin. Darrin was first played by DIck York and, later in the series, by Dick Sargent.

TVLand will air a "Bewitched" marathon on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21. However the show will air daily, starting at 5 p.m., starting March 1.

  1. Chuck Chuck Chuck Chuck Chuck. Everyone knows that while the most enduring portrait of an adman on television did come from the classic sitcom “Bewitched,” the character for the ages was not Darrin Stevens. It was Darrin’s boss, Larry Tate, played by the incomparable David White.
    DARRIN:
[Presents idea to client in meeting]
    LARRY:
    Darrin, that idea is awful!
    CLIENT:
    I like it!
    LARRY:
Awfully great, I mean! Darrin, you’ve done it again!!
“Mad Men?” Yeah, it’s OK. All hail Larry Tate!

  2. Since the DVDs have been available for years, why would anyone who actually likes the show watch the snipped to #$@! version TV Land will show to fit it into its time slot?

  3. Not to mention his (implied) pill-popping, alcoholic wife…A classic 60’s archetype, AKA Mother;s Little Helpers abuser…
Gets her on her way, through her busy dyin’ day!

  4. I like your blog design, looks clean and simple, is it custom design or a template?
