Leno’s New ‘Tonight’ Will be Minus a Key Player

Feb 17, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Jay Leno’s new “Tonight Show” will be missing a key element from his old version, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Kevin Eubanks, the show’s bandleader since 1995, is negotiating his departure from the show. He’ll be there for the March 1 debut, but will leave “within months,” THR says.

Announcer John Melendez will no longer provide the voiceover, but he’ll continue on the show as a writer.

Various media outlets say that the news about Eubanks leaving was first reported by Los Angeles radio station K-EARTH.

  1. NO ONE WILL WATCH ANY WAY NBC HAS GONE DOWN THE TUBES GALD I LIVE NEAR CANADA SO I CAN WATCH THE GAMES WOULD NOT GIVE NBC ANY OF MY TIME EVER!!! THEY ARE LOOSERS!! AND STINK YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD LEARN BY NOW EVERY THING THEY DO IT’S JUST VERY BAD I HEARD WHEN THEY WERE SHOWING THE ICE SKATTING THEY DID NOT EVEN SHOW THE FEET FOR 1/2 OF THEM THAT’S BAD!!

  2. This is good news to me. I always hated the inane interruptions by the musician. In fact I didn’t like the band in the first place; after hearing
Doc Severinson, this so-called music grated on my ears.
As far as the “voice-over” job, I’m available.

  3. I wonder if Conan O’Brien can play a band instrument?

  4. nice spelling, really gud

  5. YES, Conan can play and he’s real good and will only get better. Too bad NBC would only give him second fiddle. Smart and forward thinking.
Maybe they should go back to the old corporate saying that someone coined in the ’80’s when they were last in the cellar, “Dumb as a Peacock”. Seems appropriate as long as Zucker and big DICK Ebersol are still clinging to their jobs. THROW THE BUMS OUT AND GIVE THEM LENO AS A LEAD PARACHUTE.

  6. Well, Jay needs to have new talented blood around him – although in Leno’s case, he works best without a sidekick. However, I liked Eubanks and wish him well in his career. As to how the New ‘Tonight’ with Jay Leno works out – we’ll simply have to wait and see – however Zucker’s influence may be a continuing liability both for ‘Tonight’ and NBC. -Andrew, MALL727net-

  7. Great…just one word for the ZUCKER machine to sleep by…COMCASTIC! Boom!

  8. You might try adjusting your TV set. You are probably cutting off the lower part of the raster. Also you might learn how to post messages on the internet. All CAPS is a no-no. Also go back to the second grade and learn spelling.
