Murdoch Needs to Be Convinced on Conan

Feb 3, 2010  •  Post A Comment

News Corp. chief executive Rupert Murdoch told investors that Fox Broadcasting is giving serious consideration to bringing Conan O’Brien on board to do a late night show, but no deal will happen until Fox executives can make the case that the move will be profitable, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Getting the time back from affiliates, which usually run sitcoms in the late night hours, will be a challenge, Murdoch said, predicting that any such negotiations would be “difficult.” He said that there have yet to be “real negotiations” with O’Brien’s team, just some conversations.

  1. Just slap on Conan at 11PM five nights a week, make sure to have Max Weinberg under contract and make sure Andy R. stays on the sofa. Also, let Conan go really wild on the skits. And have really good writers – the show will make money. The one good thing about FOX, when it has a good series it practically runs forever – think Simpson’s. I really don’t think Murdoch has much to worry about – and the affiliates are getting a free feed – way to save some station and group dollars. Those who watch can miss the Leno fiasco – and Conan can have a lot of fun baiting NBC and Leno!
