After Ratings Slide, Fox Shakes up ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

With a ratings slide during the past two years, Fox’s "So You Think You Can Dance" is set for a shake-up, the Hollywood Reporter says.

Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said he’s planning to return dancers from previous series who will be paired with 2010 contestants to compete for a $250,000 prize and a magazine cover feature.
"The whole reason for doing it is to make the show more exciting," Lythgoe said on a conference call with reporters. "Some of these brilliant dancers have just disappeared off the face of the earth."

The new season will air on Fox starting May 27. Viewers in 2009 had slid to 7.1 million from 9.7 million in 2008.

  1. This is stupid. The only reason for the downturn in ratings is the overkill of both a fall and a summer edition.
Take a break and come back. Tweaks didn’t help “The Apprentice” and back-to-back editions is what hurt “Last Comic Standing”.

  2. I whole heartedly agree with Terrence. As much as I loved getting all that dance last year, yes, give it a break and do it once a year. Idol only does once a year…
I think they believe that bringing back favorites will boost the ratings. Hope it works, i would hate to lose one of my favorite shows.
