Broadcasters Fight Back on Retrans

The National Association of Broadcasters, countering cable and satellite operators’ request for changes in the retransmission consent system, says the system is working just fine, B&C reports.

In his own letter to lawmakers, NAB Chairman Paul Karpowicz notes that Congress and the Federal Communications Commission have already concluded that the system is fine, and that government shouldn’t meddle in free market negotiations. And, he added, broadcasters haven’t been found guilty of bad-faith bargaining, as the FCC already has the authority to charge.
