Roger Corman, who once directed nine low-budget theatrical movies in a single year, is making a new movie for Syfy, the channel has announced.

Corman, who recently received an honorary Academy Award recognizing his huge B-movie career, will produce "Sharktopus" for Syfy.

The film stars Eric Roberts. " ‘Sharktopus’ is about a research scientist (Roberts) and his talented daughter who develop a secret military weapon – a hybrid shark/octopus that can be controlled by electrical implants. But when the controls break down, the monster goes on a killing rampage at the resort beaches of Mexico," Syfy said in a press release.

Corman is no stranger to making movies about the ocean, having made "Attack of the Crab Monsters," "She Gods of Shark Reef" (attention Discovery Channel on that one), "Creature From the Haunted Sea," and "The Saga of the Viking Women and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent."
