CBS Plans Back Door Pilot for ‘Criminal Minds’ Spinoff

"Criminal Minds" fans could be getting more crime-stopping action, as CBS plots out a back-door pilot for a spinoff of the five-season old show, the New York Post reports.

The Forrest Whitaker spinoff of "Criminal Minds" — a back door pilot much like last season’s "NCIS: Los Angeles" — will hit the airwaves during the April 7th episode of the hit CBS series.

Whitaker will play a long-time FBI agent, Sam Cooper, who’s called in to help with a San Francisco serial murder case.

Cooper’s character is complicated, having walked away from the job for eight years without explanation.

If the show is successful, CBS could slate the spinoff into next year’s schedule.
