Entering the Lion’s Den: FCC Commissioner to Talk to Broadcasters at Their NAB Convention in April

Mar 19, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Federal Communications Commissioner Julius Genachowski will give a keynote speech at the National Association of Broadcasters Annual Convention in Las Vegas in April, B&C reports.

The speech will be of key interest to broadcasters in light of the FCC’s recently released National Broadband Plan, parts of which many broadcasters have major doubts.

Says B&C, "The FCC is looking to fit broadcasters into six fewer channels and get others to give up some of their spectrum in an effort to get that 120 MHz for wireless broadband."

  1. I like the internet as much as the next person, but we can not wipe out our broadcast bands in the process of having wireless access to the world wide web. We are still a free and open society and in order to sustain that, an important part of that tapestry includes, and must continue to include, broadcasting over the public airwaves. Let’s make sure we make that impression on the commissioner and his co-horts at the NAB and there after.
