Diane Lane has been cast in HBO’s film "Cinema Verite," a look at the making of the innovative 1973 PBS documentary "An American Family," the Hollywood Reporter says.

She’ll play Pat Loud, the mother of the Santa Barbara family that was tracked by cameras in an early version of today’s docudrama programs such as "Jon & Kate." When the series debuted in 1973 it surprised many viewers by showing a real family struggling with divorce and their son’s sexual orientation.

"Verite" is produced by Gavin Polone and written by "The Omen" writer David Seltzer.
